Laurel man gets six years deferred sentence

The Laurel man who started the fire that destroyed the Fiberglass Structures production building in February of 2015, was sentenced in Yellowstone District Court, Monday, Nov. 14. Following a plea deal negotiated earlier, Judge Gregory Todd sentenced Kristopher Harasymczuk to a six-year deferred sentence. He was also ordered to work on a Sheriff’s detail for 30 days and pay $100 a month in restitution for 6 years.
Robert Harris, president of Fiberglass Structures at the time of the fire, testified in order to address Harasymczuk.
“I want you to know that six years is light,” he said, adding that he would be making certain the restitution was made. If it wasn’t paid on-time every month, Harris promised he would be notifying probation and parole to have the deferred sentence re-instated.
Judge Todd said he took several factors into consideration when accepting the plea, including the defendant’s lack of a criminal record.
During the investigation, an employee reported that he was washing his hands and arms with an acetone solution when he noticed Harasymczuk holding a lighter.
Moments later, that employee realized he was on fire.
The man said Harasymczuk helped pat him down and evacuate the building before it burned to the ground.
Other employees of the business reported that Harasymczuk was known for playing with lighters at work.
