Laurel man’s chosen profession not working out

A Laurel man just can’t catch a break. No matter how hard he tries, crime isn’t paying off for David Darrow Roundy.
Roundy, 40, was arrested Tuesday by deputies from the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Department for residential burglary and criminal contempt. Although he did his best to get away, he was no match for law enforcement, including a Billings Police Department K-9, called in to flush Roundy out of the garage attic where he was hiding. Roundy sustained several superficial wounds, including a dog bite during the arrest, according to reports.
YCSD deputies were dispatched to a burglary in progress after a resident in the neighborhood of 6400 Black Paw Dr. reported it at about 3 p.m. Roundy made his initial escape in what is suspected to be a stolen vehicle. After abandoning the vehicle in a field off of S. 51st St. W., he hid in a garage where he was found after another resident reported a garage door that was usually kept open, closed.
Roundy has been featured on this page before, most recently for shoplifting at IGA, twice in as many weeks. After a city warrant was issued on that charge, he was arrested by Laurel Police Department Officer Joel Sauter and booked into the Yellowstone County Detention Facility.
Roundy has tried to ply his trade for a number of years. A cursory search of the internet brought up charges of sexual assault in 2001 in Alaska. He was arrested on a more recent charge of partner or family member assault. Last month, he was cited for speeding, running a stop sign and driving without a valid driver’s license. Roundy is also listed on the Yellowstone County sexual/violent offender registry for sexual assault.
After Roundy’s arrest Tuesday, he refused to cooperate and was identified by the ankle monitor he was wearing as a condition of release from YCDF a few weeks ago. He is being held on a $5,858 bond, according to the jail roster.
