Laurel Hometown Troops needs fudge and addresses

Thursday, October 29, 2020

Laurel Hometown Troops had planned to host its annual boxpacking day Saturday, Nov. 7, at Graff Elementary School, but because of Covid-19 restrictions, plans have changed, according to Renae Marshall, who heads the organization.

“We can’t have all those people crowded together this year,” she said. “So, we are doing things a bit differently.” Marshall said she, her fiancé and several other volunteers will be working on filling the boxes at her home. “We’ve been filling little bags with candy and other items for a few weeks,” she said. “It’s going to be a longer process but we’ll get it done.”

Marshall said she appreciates all the help the community provides and noted that there are still ways folks can help.

“We still need lots of fudge, muddy buddies and dipped Oreos,” she said. “Most importantly, we need the addresses of military serving overseas.”

Every year, Laurel Hometown Troops gathers items so members of the military who are a long way from home can celebrate the holidays. They even send a Christmas tree! While the boxes are sent to individual service members, they are meant to be shared. Each contains the right mix of food treats, games, hygienic items and other gifts for about 25 people. The Outlook also donates newspapers to go in the boxes.
