As businesses continue to close and outdoor recreation opportunities are narrowing nationally and county and city–wide, the Laurel Golf Club is still open for business. The restaurant also remains open for take–out and delivery and is offering a full menu.

On Tuesday, Head Golf Professional Tom Anderson said members and guests still have full access to the golf course but said the club is abiding by the current standards recommended and/or required by health and government officials.

“Anything that people normally touch we have removed or eliminated,” he said. The greens crew has remove ball washers and rakes from the bunkers. They also installed pvc pipe rings instead of cups on the greens so players don’t have to touch the flag sticks or put their hands in the hole to retrieve their ball. Range balls are washed nightly and stacked up on the driving range each day to help minimize the risk of disease transmission.

“We eliminated club storage, aren’t allowing more than five in a group and only allowing single riders in a cart,” Anderson said.

They also disinfect the golf shop multiple times a day and outside staff continues to wear gloves while sanitizing the golf carts and sand bottles.

He said members are playing by themselves and a lot of them don’t even come into the clubhouse to check in. “They just walk by the window and wave.”

Clubhouse Manager Jennifer Nelson said the restaurant remains open for take–out and delivery but no more than five members or guests are allowed in the clubhouse at any one time.

“We are open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and are offering our normal menu,” she said. The restaurant is not charging a delivery fee but hopes customers and members will continue to tip the staff well.

“We’ve had to cut some hours but if the employees are comfortable we are letting them work. If they aren’t, we are redistributing their hours,” Nelson said.

The menu can be found online with daily specials posted on the Laurel Golf Club Facebook page.

Anderson said the golf club is remaining vigilant about cleanliness during the crisis and said, “We’re just taking it day by day at this point.”
