Laurel girls second, boys third in Divisionals

Aspen Cotter and her 4x400 relay team took first place. The team included Cotter, Samantha Spitzer, Paige O’Toole and Jessica Elmer.

The Laurel boys and girls track teams each had strong showings last week at the Eastern A Divisional meet in Belgrade and they zeroed in on the state track meet on their home track.

Taylor Ludwig continued to post the fastest times in Class A in the 100 and 200 as she won her signature events and even took the title in the 400 meters with a 58.94. She also finished second in the long jump.

The girls 4x400 relay team also won. The team of Aspen Cotter, Samantha Spitzer, Paige O’Toole and Jessica Elmer combined for a time of 4:06.90 to win.

Paige O’Toole showed her versatility by winning the javelin competition with a 110-04 toss as well as a second place showing in the discus.

Aspen Cotter finished fifth in the 100 and Taylor Noble was sixth to give Laurel more points.

Jessica Elmer had a strong showing in the 800 with a third-place finish. She also finished third in the 1600 meters.

The girls 4x100 relay team finished fourth with a 51.49.

Samantha Spitzer finished fifth in the triple jump to round out the Locomotive scoring.

On the boys’ side, Levi Taylor took the title in the 3200 meters and continues to have the fastest time in the state in Class A. Taylor finished second in the 1600 to Belgrade’s Jacob Grinwis. His time was 4:31.83.

Casey Cole easily outdistanced the javelin competitors with a 184-10 heave.

Team scores for boys: Sidney, 120; Belgrade, 108; Laurel, 102; Miles City, 61; Lewistown, 54; Glendive, 36; Billings Central, 23; Hardin, 15; Livingston, 8. 

Team results for girls: Belgrade, 112; Laurel, 93; Glendive, 73; Miles City, 59; Lewistown, 54; Sidney, 47; Livingston, 37; Havre, 32; Hardin, 18; Browning, 2.
