Laurel Volunteer Fire Department crews have been busy. They responded to Lockwood for the Sage Hills Fire which began on July 20 on the Crow Indian Reservation and spread to an area near Emerald Hills. Then they were deployed to the Bruner Mountain Fire in the Bull Mountains Friday, according to LVFD Chief Brent Peters.
“We were part of the crew that kept that fire from spreading into Yellowstone County,” Peters said. Not long after fighting the Musselshell County fire, members of the LVFD were dispatched to fight the Beartooth Vista, or Columbus. Fire. They remained on-site at the blaze from Friday through noon on Saturday. The fire continued to flare up Monday.
Since Gov. Steve Bullock declared a fire emergency in Montana on July 24, more resources have been made available to emergency departments state-wide, including the LVFD which has gained an engine boss and a fire fighter from the Department of Natural Resource and Conservation.
“They are working for us full-time right now,” Peters said. “It’s been a tremendous help with all the fires we’ve had.”
