On Monday, May 15, Laurel FFA celebrated its annual FFA Banquet at the Laurel High School Depot. There were 40 guests, including family, friends and FFA alumni. This was the time to recognize a year of accomplishments.
Seth Rekdal, the State FFA First Vice President, brought greetings from the state and shared his FFA story. Laurel’s very own Kelsey Kraft, State FFA Reporter also shared her FFA story as a way of encouraging members and letting them know that working hard does pay off. She suggested students “find your thing,” in school.
Degrees were awarded at the Discovery, Greenhand and Chapter levels and recognition was given to those receiving their State and American Degrees as well.
Advisor, Jessie Dines, gave out awards to the individual teams and members who competed this year. After the awards were given out our alumni, members Dan Story and Lori Kraft talked about the Legacy Project, a new greenhouse that the alumni will be sponsoring. They talked about how this will not only benefit the Laurel FFA but the whole community.
To wrap up the year the FFA chapter will be selling plants through Friday, May 26, and the work days will start. Along with the Legacy Project, the alumni gave out $4,500 in scholarships to seniors in the chapter.
The banquet concluded with electing the officers for the 2017—2018 year. With the exception of the nominating committee’s recommendation the new officers include: Lynda Fox as Sentinel, Makayla Dines as Reporter, Brenda Fox as Treasurer, Ashley Gee as Secretary, Garrett Bromenshenk as Second Vice President, Anna Kraft as First Vice President and Ryan Robertus as President.
