The Laurel Locomotives cross country teams didn’t place particularly well at this meet, but that was due to the abundance of teams that participated. Teams from all over the state of Montana came to Missoula to run in this meet. There were even a handful of teams from Idaho and Washington that came and ran in this meet. The girls team finished 16th overall, finishing

higher than teams such as Gonzaga Prep from Washington, Billings Senior and Billings Skyview. The boys finished 31st overall, which was better than teams such as Billings Central, Big Sky, and Deer Park, Washington.

Mountain West Classic

There were over 375 boys varsity runners and over 320 girls varsity runners.

The Lady Locos have a new, up-and-coming distance runner in the making. Freshman Carly Cook has been making strides all year long, and placed highest amongst the girls in this race, finishing 68th overall with a time of 20:48. Junior Grace Timm, typically the team’s highest individual finisher, placed 72nd overall with a time of 20:52. A fellow junior Andria Mourich was the third and final Lady Loco to finish in the top 100, placing 84th with a time of 21:05. Lauren Taylor was the next closest with her time of 21:50. Britnee Atkinson, Lizzie Wisecup, and Becky Melcher all finished in the top 200.

The boys didn’t quite have the same amount of success that the girls did. Senior Haden Wilson was once again the team’s highest finishing runner, and his 17:28 time was good enough to finish 73rd overall. Sophomore

Dylan Paris and and senior Draven Earles both finished in the top 200. Ivan Lee, Colton Trostle, and freshman Garrett Martin all finished in under the 19:30 mark. They finished 234th, 252nd, and 256th overall, respectively. Ty Barta was the last finisher for the boys. He finished at 294th overall.

Cross country season is slowly coming to a close. The Laurel harriers have just two more regular-season meets. They will travel to Miles City this Saturday, Oct. 5, to compete in the Custer County Invitational. The week following, Laurel will compete in Helena at the Capital City 7 of 7.

Following these two meets, Laurel will then begin to prepare for a cold postseason of meets. Divisionals will be in Billings, hosted by Billings Central, on Oct. 19. The Class A State Cross

Country Meet will take place in Great Falls on Oct. 25. Good luck to the Laurel cross country teams as they look to finish strong to end this season.
