Laurel boys, girls dominate quad

The field events carried the day Tuesday for the Laurel Locomotive’s boys’ team while the girls dominated the running events at a quad meet in Laurel.

Laurel hosted teams from Hardin, Park County and Fergus County.

A couple of personal records lifted LHS to a sweep in the boys triple jump. Ely Kraft won the event with a 37-04 foot leap and a possible school record to edge out teammate Alec Nys’ effort by one inch. Colter Taylor finished third.

Jared Craig won the long jump with a 19-10-foot effort.

The Locomotives took four out of the top five places in the pole vault with Carver Thompson clearing 12-06. Jared Craig was third, Colton Atkinson was fourth and Daniel Craig was fifth.

In the javelin, LHS senior Casey Cole threw 164-10 to win. Logan Kennedy was second, while Ely Kraft was fourth and  Brandon Parsons finished fifth.

Ely Kraft finished second in the discus with a heave of 126-11.5. Craig Sowers was third.

Craig Sowers took first in the shot put with a 41-02.50-foot throw. Colter Hickok was second and Kolter McLaughlin was fifth.

LHS finished second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:46.23 with Ethan Doty, Ben Longbottom, Tre Whitford and Colt Spencer.

Colt Spenser finished second in the 300-meter hurdles and Chris Abell finished fourth.

Chris Abell finished second in the 110 high hurdles and teammates Jared Craig and Colt Spencer finished third and fourth.

Levi Taylor won the 3200-meter race with a time of 10:14.53. Ben Longbottom finished third.

Levi Taylor also won the 1600 meters with a time of 4:32.34.

Ben Longbottom finished second in the 800 meters with a 2:05.88 time.

Ethan Renner finished third in the 400 and Colton Taylor placed fourth to lead the Locos.


Girls results

Speedy Aspen Cotter led the LHS girls sprint squad with a first place finish in the 100 meters and a second in the 200 meters.

Cotter ran a 13.38 to lead three Locos who finished in the top four, Taylor Noble was third and Taylor Karlin finished fourth.

Cotter and Noble finished second and third and Torri Craig finished in fourth.

Taylor Ludwig cracked the minute mark in the 400 meters to win.

In the 800 meters, Paige Ventling finished third.

Paige Ventling finished third while teammate Ashtyn Hoppel finished fourth in the 1600 meters.

Laurel’s 4x100 relay team won with a time of 51.77. The team consisted of Aspen Cotter, Taylor Ludwig, Paige O’Toole and Samantha Spitzer. The exact same team came back to win the 4x400 meter relay.

Paige O’Toole was second in the discus with a 114-09 heave. She also finished second in the javelin at 99-07.

In the high jump, Danae Filpula Ankney was third with a jump of 4-08. Callie Allen and Aspen Cotter finished third and fourth and Paige O’Toole finished in sixth..

Jessica LaFevre and Taylor Karlin tied for fourth in the pole vault.

Taylor Noble won the long jump with a leap of 14-08. Sabrina Wolcott andTorri Craig finished in fourth and fifth.

Sarina Wolcott finished first in the triple jump with a 32-06.25 effort. Taylor Noble finished fourth.
