Levi Taylor and Grace Timm were the individual winners. From the left are Draven Earles, Ethan Gradwohl, Ethan Doty, Tre Whitford, Haden Wilson, Taylor and Isaac Manders.

The Laurel boy’s Cross Country edged conference rival Hardin Bulldogs to claim Divisionals for the first time since 2013.

Coach Amy Caldeira said the boys team “came out with heart and were able to pull off a tight win against Hardin. We needed all seven boys to put out a solid race, and they surpassed our expectations, with six members making the All-Divisional team.”

Levi Taylor and Grace Timm both won the Eastern A Classic as individuals.

“They are humble runners, which makes their wins even more deserving. For them, it’s all about goal-setting and improvement. Neither settles for mediocrity, whether in practice or at meets. Our entire team works hard every day and these two are no exception,” Caldeira said.

Caldeira said the course in Hardin was flat and fast with ideal weather.

“Our goal last week was to run for the team and to focus not on your own discomfort during the race, but on the sacrifices the whole team was making together.”

The team appeared to achieve that goal as 24 team members marked a personal best at the meet, which also saw the girls team take 3rd.

“The girls finished behind Miles City and Hardin, but showcased the potential of their team. The varsity included four freshmen and two juniors, which shows the promise this young team has for future years. Freshman Grace Timm and Andria Mourich made the All-Division team [top 15],” Caldeira said.

The State meet at Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena is “a course of rolling hills and weather is again in our favor, with a high of 50 and no sign of rain.”
