Laurel-area fall hunter education classes set

Hunter education classes are set to begin during the next month in Laurel, Billings, Lockwood and Shepherd. The classes, taught by certified Fish, Wildlife and Parks volunteers, are required for most people to buy a hunting license in Montana.
Online registration for the classes is encouraged. Students may register online at the Montana FWP web site – and follow the links to education, “hunter education programs” and “find a class.”
All classes include a 6:30 p.m. registration and orientation session – which is required for all students, including those who have registered online – five evenings of classes and a Saturday field exercise.
Here is a list of classes in the Laurel area:
Laurel High School: orientation Tuesday, Sept. 5 with classes Sept 11-16.
Castlerock Middle School and Shepherd Elementary: orientation Monday, Sept. 11 with classes Sept. 18-23.
Will James, Riverside and Lewis & Clark middle schools: orientation Monday Sept. 18 with classes Sept. 25-30.
Medicine Crow Middle School and Lockwood Middle School: orientation Monday Sept. 25 with classes Oct. 2-7.
Students must be at least 10 years old to register. Students younger than 18 years old must bring a parent or guardian to the orientation and registration session.
Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985, must complete a hunter education class before purchasing a Montana hunting license.
