Laurel, area communities honoring veterans on their day

In addition to a hearty “Thanks for your service,” veterans in our area will be honored at services throughout the county and, in some cases, given a free meal in recognition of their service on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11.
• In Laurel, the American Legion Post #123 Auxiliary is hosting a color guard from the post at Graff Elementary School on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 8:30 a.m. Auxiliary members will be giving students coloring books on flag etiquette as well. Later, the Auxiliary will be feeding Legionnaires at 6 p.m. at the Laurel Senior Citizen Center. Call Richard Klose at 671-1814 to reserve a seat.
• The Laurel Senior Citizen Center will provide a noon meal to veterans on Friday, Nov. 10th. Reservations are required. Call 628-7571 to make a reservation or for more information.
• Friends of Yellowstone National Cemetery and the United Veterans Council will hold a celebration on Veterans Day, Saturday Nov. 11, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at 2420 13th St. West in Billings with the eighth-grade Lockwood Band. Speakers will include Yellowstone County Commissioner Denis Pitman, WWII veteran Lonnie Bell and U.S. Air Force reservist and teacher at MSU Billings’ City College, Elizabeth Fulton.
• At 11 a.m. on Veteran’s Day, Laurel’s American Legion Post #123 will be presenting the colors and honoring veterans at MorningStar Senior Living, 4001 Bell Ave. off of Shiloh and south of Central Ave.
• Joliet Baptist Church is hosting a celebration to honor veterans Sunday, Nov. 12, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All are invited to enjoy a buffet after the worship service. For more information contact Pastor Bob at 962-2235.
• A number of restaurants are giving deals or free meals to veterans. Because the holiday lands on a Saturday, check days and availability at Texas Roadhouse and Golden Corral, two local restaurants that provide free meals.
