Lady Locomotives ready for tourney play

The LHS girls came out red-hot against rival Billings Central Rams last week in a 42-26 win.
The girls have been on a run as of late, winning their last handful of games.
Rylee Clark hit threes from deep quick in the first quarter to help her team to a 10 point 17-7 advantage after the first quarter. It wasn’t close after that.
The Rams made a few runs, but Laurel answered every single one of them with their own explosive offense.
After a season that had them fall below .500 for almost the entire year the last few weeks have seen completely different games.
The girls finally started to play together and win games.
Aspen Cotter, one of the quickest in the conference, blazed past every defender on her way to scoring and setting up her teammates in an onslaught of consistent play. She had 14 against the Rams.
“I’m very proud of the way the girls finished their conference season,” Amber Griffith, head coach of the Locomotives said. “We are excited about the position we’ve put ourselves in.”
The win over Billings Central was a big one for their confidence. They controlled the entire game, from the tempo to the defensive end, where they held their opponent to single-digit scoring every single quarter.
“I am very much looking forward to the tournament this week,” said Griffith. “I am confident that our girls will play well.”
They didn’t need to play the last game of the season against Billings Senior. The seeding for conference play was already set and the The Billings Senior game gave the girls a much needed rest. They lost, but it didn’t matter, they are looking ahead at tourney play.
The Lady Locos finished second in the Eastern A conference with a 6-4 record and 9-8 overall; winners of 5 of their last 6 to crawl back into contention.
In the conference they sit behind Hardin, first and Billings Central, third.
How did it all happen? How did the girls pull together such a magical ending?
Seeing is believing with this squad.
The intensity and passion they will carry with them into Divisionals is a sight to behold for all Loco fans.
Divisionals run from Feb. 22-25.
