The J-Hawks lost to undefeated Huntley Project in the championship, but punched their ticket to Divisionals in Red Lodge where they play Forsyth at 4 p.m. today in the opening round match.

Joliet is on to the divisional tournament, starting today in Red Lodge, after taking second at the 4B district tournament in Huntley last week.

Coach Colette Webber was thrilled with the teams performance during the tournament.

“To say I am proud of these girls is an understatement.  They played well all weekend and fought for a spot to go to Divisionals. They competed well with Huntley and played with fearless hearts,” she said.

The J-Hawks had a first round bye and played conference rival Red Lodge on Friday afternoon, defeating the Rams in four games; 25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 25-19.

Then they lost to undefeated Huntley Project Saturday morning 23-25, 21-25 and 18-25.

Joliet faced Red Lodge for the second time in the losers bracket, defeating them 25-18, 25-17, 25-11 and assuring their spot in Divisionals.

Then they faced Huntley Project again, needing to beat them twice to claim the District title. The J-Hawks took the early 2-1 lead, nearly handing the Red Devils their first loss of the season, but lost the fourth game 26-28 and fell in the tiebreaker 6-15 to get the runner-up finish.

“I feel like we are just peaking in our season and we know we have to keep working hard to get one of the top spots at Divisionals. This is a team where everyone contributes and there are no small roles.  They are very united and close.  That makes it fun to coach,” Webber said.

The J-Hawks play their first round match against Forsyth at 4 p.m. in Red Lodge.
