Joliet topped Park City 32-27 in a close game on Friday to remain in a tie for first with Tri-City and Ennis in the Southern C 8-man division, and assuring a playoff berth.
Park City dropped their third consecutive game to fall to 4-4 and remain in solo fifth place behind Lone Peak (6-2).
J-Hawk Coach George Warburton called it a hard-earned win.
“We came out flat and had a tough time matching Park City’s intensity early in the first half,” he said.
The Panthers got off to a fast start, taking a 12-8 lead after the first quarter, before the J-Hawks scored 12 unanswered in the second, taking the 20-12 halftime lead. After a scoreless third, Park City outscored Joliet 15-12 in the final quarter, but came up short and the J-Hawks got the 32-27 victory.
Warburton was complimentary about the Panther team.
They “deserve a lot of credit, they came prepared and ready to play.”
Warburton said, “In true Senior Night fashion, we had a few seniors step up enough to get the victory.”
Senior Brett Robinson had eight solo tackles, seven assists and a pass deflection on defense. On offense he had 24 carries for 178 yards and touchdown runs of 1, 33 and 22 yards, and had two receptions for 70 yards.
Senior Taylor Rowlison was 5-14 with 141 yards passing and one TD.
Rylan Olson had five carries for 104 yards with a 33-yard TD run and three receptions for 71 yards, including a 44-yard TD catch. On defense he had four solo and four assisted tackles, and a pass deflection and interception.
Justin Harris had a sack and seven solo tackles, assisting on five.
Caiden Kirby had a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery along with four solo and six assisted tackles.
Grant O’Rourke added five solo tackles and an assist.
Joliet (7-1) traveled to Gardiner (1-7) yesterday for their final game before the playoffs begin.
Warburton said the J-Hawks will most likely travel to Charlo for their first round game.
“If Denton/Geyser/Stanford can beat Tri-City we would be the number two seed and host a first round game, but that is unlikely.”
Park City (4-4) hosts Absarokee (3-5) tonight at 7 p.m.
“I want to give a special shout out to my Seniors this year, it has been a pleasure coaching you. I look forward to the rest of the season,” Warburton said.
