Joliet and Laurel young cattle producers received top awards

The Montana Stockgrowers Association awarded the Steer of Merit 2017 award at it’s annual convention luncheon. The Steer of Merit Award is sponsored by the Montana Stockgrowers Association in cooperation with the Montana State University Extension Service. The award promotes and recognizes the production of the highest quality of Montana beef with carcass characteristics that meet the U.S. beef industry standards of excellence. The award is given to the qualifiers and breeders whose cattle have met or exceeded these benchmarks. Of the 762 statewide county youth 4H and FFA participants the top five are recognized by the Stockgrowers with a cash award and plaque. Logan Mydland of Joliet FFA was award 5th place and Anna Kraft of Laurel FFA along with breeder Brad Kraft received 4th place.
