Jim Penne

James Eugene Penne (“Jim”), of Indian Valley, Idaho, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at his beloved Broken Tree Ranch. Services for Jim were held on Monday, March 20th, at the Indian Valley Community Hall with a Mass officiated by Fr. Tom Keller and reception provided by members of the community.
Jim was born on March 10, 1949, in Minot, North Dakota to Lloyd and Margaret Finnegan Penne. The family moved to Laurel, Montana where he completed his education and graduated from Laurel High School in 1967. He was a Vietnam War veteran who served in the Air Force and was discharged in 1971 from his last station, Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho.
Jim made his home in this magnificent state and graduated in 1974 with an Associate’s Degree from Idaho State University in Pocatello. He pursued his love for aviation and worked as an A&P Mechanic first for Morrison-Knudsen and then Western Aircraft. Eventually he went off on his own and until his retirement, worked as the Director of Maintenance for an individual who owned three corporate aircraft.
Jim’s deep, ingrained feel for the land prompted him to build Broken Tree Ranch, where he moved and lived there full-time since 2001. Here he followed his passion to hunt, fish, and ride horses. After his retirement he developed and honed his skill to cultivate tomato plants. He enjoyed watching them grow and especially giving the seedlings away to friends in the area.
He is survived by his wife, Francine Villano of Indian Valley, daughter Shawna of Boise, brother, Mike and wife Yvonne, sister, Judith and husband Larry Steinhart, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in his memory to the Indian Valley Fire Department, PO Box 95, Indian Valley, ID 83632.
