In one of, if not their best defensive performance of the year, the J-Hawks held the Roundup Panthers to just 36 points in their 53-36 home victory last Thursday.
Joliet’s Brett Robinson was out, which was a cause of concern for head coach John Nelson as he is one of their top defenders. The Panthers had one of Montana’s best scorers Kelson Eiselein on their team. The tough defensive assignment fell to Logan Mydland and the rest of the J-Hawks to stop Eiselein.
Mydland and his teammates held Roundup’s leading scorer to just seven-points in the game.
“Everybody stepped up and pulled their weight,” said Nelson.
Their defense turned out to be the difference in the game as they held the Panthers to 15 combined points in the second half. Joliet’s offense wasn’t too shabby either. Taylor Rowlison had 16, Ty Olson, 14, and Wyatt Kramer pitched in eight.

Two days later the J-Hawks faced Red Lodge in their first of three road games of the New Year. The game started slow, but after they gained momentum the slaughter began as they beat their opponent 69-37.
“The boys came out a little flat for my liking,” said coach John Nelson. “But they really turned it on in the second half.”
Hitting eight three-pointers as a team the J-Hawk’s started scoring from everywhere. Taylor Rowlison and Rylan Olson had 26 and 21 points each to lead their team as they both played outstanding games offensively. Joliet held their opponent under 40 points for the second game in a row.
The J-Hawks are 9-1 on the season. Their only defeat came in the one-point 62-61 loss to Shepherd on Dec. 20.
Their next game is on the road against Huntley Project on Jan. 20, at 7:30 p.m.
