Hardin Chevrolet’s Hearts for the Holidays benefits Laurel mom

Haley Gunter and her son Jackson were the lucky recipients of Hardin Chevrolet’s Hearts for the Holidays campaign.
The dealership accepts nominations and selects one family to receive a car suitable for their needs each year. Gunter was awarded a Chrysler Town & Country minivan, which she needs to tote Jackson – who was born with cerebral palsy – along with his wheelchair and other necessities.
Jamey Eisenbarth, owner of Hardin Chevrolet, came to Laurel on Wednesday, Dec. 21 to surprise the mother when she came to pick up 3-year-old Jackson from Head Start. Haley’s mother Carrie was also on-hand for the give-a-way. She had nominated her daughter.
“It just means so much,” Gunter said. “There is no way I would have been able to do it on my own. I don’t think words can even express it right now.”
This is the eighth year of Hardin Chevrolet’s Hearts for the Holidays. Gunter was selected out of more than 100 applicants.
“We were just blessed to be able to give her a van that she can haul the wheelchairs around, and strollers and everything else that a young mom needs to care for her child,” Eisenbarth said. “We are honored to be able to do that each year.”
In 2008, the dealership began its Hearts for the Holidays promotion. Anyone can nominate someone in the community who is going through hard times and has no reliable or appropriate transportation. Then, Eisenbarth and his crew go through all of the nominations and select the winner just in time for the holidays.
“We wish we could choose everyone who is nominated,” Eisenbarth said. “Sometimes you are choking back tears just reading the nominations, but every year it seems that one clear winner just stands out, and this year is no different.”
