Governor Gianforte to headline September 11 Laurel commemoration

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte will be the special guest speaker at the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11 ceremony at the Montana State Firefighter Memorial Park Saturday.

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte will be the special guest speaker at the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11 ceremony at the Montana State Firefighter Memorial Park Saturday.

The 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the United States will be commemorated with a ceremony in the Montana State Firefighter Memorial Park next to the Laurel Public Safety Complex at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 11. Members of the City of Laurel, the Laurel Police Department, Laurel Volunteer Fire Department and Laurel Ambulance Service will be speakers. Yellowstone County Commissioners have also been invited to attend. The special guest speaker is Montana Governor Greg Gianforte.

Laurel American Legion post 123 will post the Colors prior to the opening prayer by Jayson Nicholson of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Commander Ray Southworth, of the Laurel American Legion, will emcee the event and offer opening remarks.

Offering reflections on the tragedy will be Laurel Mayor Tom Nelson; Laurel Police Chief Stan Langve; Laurel Volunteer Fire Department’s Jayson Nicholson; and Laurel Ambulance Director Lynda Gurchiek.

Montana’s Governor Greg Gianforte will then present his commentary.

Laurel’s VFW Post 3177 will perform volleys and Taps. Jayson Nicholson will offer a closing prayer before the American Legion retires the colors.
