Gerald “Jerry” Ray Alkire

Gerald “Jerry” Ray Alkire, 67, of Billings Montana and a former long-time Laurel resident, died peacefully with family members by his side Sunday November 11, 2018.  He was born January 22, 1951 to Jim and Donna Cox. After the death of his parents in 1954 he was blessed with new parents, Frank and Mayme Alkire (his grandparents). He also had a little sister Connie. After high school he joined the Navy serving from 1969 to 1971. After getting out of the service Jerry went to Florida with three friends to work for his uncle/brother Hazen at his marble-fiberglass business. He married Rene McDonald and his family was blessed with two boys. After their break up he moved back to Billings to be close to his family. He started working for his uncle/brother Ray at his fiberglass business and met the love of his life Diane. Moving from Billings to Laurel he worked for Fiberglass Structures of Laurel and decided to get out of that line of work and he started at Jan’s IGA / Reese & Rays IGA for many years until he retired. He knew everyone and everyone knew him. He put lots of smiles on everyone’s faces. If you didn’t find him at work you would find him at the softball park playing the sport he loved so much. In his last couple of years at Stewart Park he just managed his team and you could see it in his face he wanted to play ball. He never missed one of the kid’s sports events and looked forward to be out in the hills hunting. He taught the kids everything on how to fix or hunt. He loved his Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees and a night watching the Billings Mustangs play.

Survived by his wife Diane and six beautiful children Gerry Jr. and Billy of Stuart, Florida, Jade (Robert) Wisecup of Laurel, Cory (Heather) Stringer of Kotlic, Alaska, and Shawn Stringer and Rusty Stringer of Laurel. Many years of also caring for Bucky (Sara) Clark; and 10 grandchildren Keira, Kaden, Kazen, Toby, Lizzie, Alexx, Bella, Maddie, Dani and Andrew.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents and uncle Hazen and Ray of Billings, aunt Shirley Dolan of Columbus, Montana, and his beautiful little sister Connie Dolan Hamilton of Columbus/Billings and nephew Brian Hamilton of Billings.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday Nov. 21, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Dahl’s Funeral Chapel, Billings with his final resting place in Laurel at the Yellowstone National Cemetery with military honors. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. at the KC’s Palace Lanes in Laurel. Arrangements are in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel and memories may be shared at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com
