George Krug

George Krug

George Krug was born on Feb. 12th 1920, in Hardin, Montana to John Jacob and Elizabeth Meier Krug. He was the eighth of 13 children, and the last surviving sibling. At the age of one his family moved to Laurel where he spent the rest of his life.
One of the things he was most proud of was his military service during World War II. During this time, he established a pen pal relationship with Maxine Dittli who became his wife when he returned home. To this union were born three children, Jewel Baker and Jerry and Jay Krug.
George was a farmer and also worked at Krug Brothers gravel pit. He was an accomplished fisherman and always enjoyed woodworking. He enjoyed telling a story and was always looking for an audience. He spent many hours selling produce at J&K farms and finding customers who would visit with him made his day.
George was preceded in death by his wife Maxine, daughter and son-in-law Jewel and Jim Baker, and all of his siblings.
George is survived by his sons Jerry (Karen), Jay (Charlene), seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews as well as countless friends.
Viewing will be Sunday March 12th from 5-7 p.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel. The funeral will be Monday March 13th at 10 a.m at St John’s Lutheran Church in Laurel. Memorials may be made to St John’s Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
George’s family would like to thank the staff of Laurel Health and Rehab for their years of kind care and help for George; he viewed them as friends, also thanks to Pastor Pullman and all the others who visited him and cheered him up.
