Sam’s Run, in honor of Sam Meling, promotes Suicide prevention and Awareness of Mental Health.

After three successful years of the Sam’s Run in Laurel, Step In, a program designed to increase community awareness of suicide prevention and the importance of mental health, will host be hosting another Sam’s Run next weekend. The run will consist of a 5K race where participants may race or walk, and they can also enjoy a pancake breakfast during the event. Prior to the 5K race, there will be an informal Kid’s Run, which will help spread mental health awareness to the younger participants. Levi Taylor of Laurel has won the 5K the past two years.

The 5K race will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, with the Kid’s Run starting at 7:45 a.m. The race will start and end at the Laurel Sports Complex, with a map of the 5K race given at packet pickup. Packet pick up for locals will be from 4-7 p.m. at Rock Church (820 W 9th Street Laurel) on Friday, August 16. There will be limited packet pickup available for those traveling on the morning of race day from 6:40-7:40 a.m. The cost for the 5K race is $20 per runner. The Kid’s Run is untimed and free.
