John Felton

On October 7, the Montana Primary Care Association awarded John Felton, President and CEO of RiverStone Health, its Dr. Alan Strange Legacy Award. The Dr. Alan Strange Legacy Award honors a leader or emerging leader who has been committed to improving access to care in the community health field in Montana.

In September, the staff of RiverStone Health proudly nominated John Felton for the Dr. Alan Strange Legacy Award. John Felton began his service to RiverStone Health as a Board member, where he served for several years until making the transition to serve as Chief Operating Officer in 2005. Felton became President & CEO of RiverStone Health in 2011, further demonstrating his unique brand of Servant Leadership to the more than 450 employees of RiverStone Health.

RiverStone Health, through its community health center program, provides integrated, comprehensive primary care. RiverStone Health’s medical and dental clinics see approximately 20,000 patients a year, more than 20% of whom are uninsured. In addition to its main campus in Billings, satellite clinics are located in Bridger, Joliet, and Worden, plus school-based health centers at Orchard Elementary and Medicine Crow Middle schools.

Throughout the current COVID-19 pandemic, Felton’s steady leadership has guided staff through the most uncertain of times. Felton has made extremely difficult decisions with respect to how best to balance prevention of COVID-19 spread with the impacts of isolation and restrictions on the community. Through the last seven months, Felton has never wavered in demonstrating his Servant Leadership. His thoughtful, consistent perseverance has been an example of how to adhere to values and principles through tumultuous times.
