Fantastic Fourth celebration and address kerfufel

From the editor’s desk

Once again thanks are due to the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department and the Laurel Chamber of Commerce, among others, for pulling off a great Fourth of July celebration despite the threat of bad weather. The many volunteers who assisted the Jaycees made the pancake breakfast a success; city employees who helped with the July 5th cleanup did a great job; and everyone who assisted between breakfast and cleanup should be commended on a wonderful job.

Our friends at the Laurel Farmers Market, previously located on US Hwy 212, are perturbed about the street address they have been given upon the completion of the new alignment of the highway. Undoubtedly, their neighbors are too. The Laurel Farmers Market’s address is now and presumably forevermore on Clarks River Rd. There is no Clarks River.

Calls to the Yellowstone County GIS manager and coordinator regarding how the names were selected have not been returned. Seems the folks living on the roadway should have some say in their own addresses, especially since the street names are brand new and probably randomly selected by some bureaucrat who obviously really doesn’t care.

Have you decided on your Halloween costume yet?
