Dorothy Katherine ‘Steinmetz’ Sitzman

Dorothy Katherine Sitzman, 86, returned to her heavenly home on August 27th, 2021. Dorothy was born on 29 June, 1935 in Crow Agency, Montana, the second of nine children, to Henry and Helen “Pitsch” Steinmetz. She was baptized on July 28, 1935 in the Lutheran Church in Hardin, Montana. She was confirmed at the Congregational Church in Laurel, Montana on March 18, 1951. Her memory verse: Psalm 16 vs. 11, In thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore

She grew up in the Hardin, Harlem and Park City, Montana. She attended 9 Mile School, a one room country school north of Hardin, with eight grades in the one big room. The family moved south of Hardin, in 1942 and she attended school in town at Hardin. When she was in the fourth grade the family moved to Harlem, Montana where she attended school through part of the eighth grade. In February 1949 the family moved to Park City, Montana where she attended school until she graduated here in 1953. During her high school years she worked during summer at Ward’s City and the Big Boy Drive In at Billings, Montana. In the 1980’s she worked at Dr. McLain and Dr. Ryan, before going to work at Yellowstone Bank in Laurel.

John W. Sitzman and Dorothy were married on Sunday, June 14, 1953 in Park City at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she has been a member since 1953. She belonged to LWML and served as Church Treasurer for five years..

Dorothy’s hobbies were sewing clothing, making quilts, embroidering, crocheting, some knitting and genealogy. She also loved camping and traveling with her husband and family. She enjoyed a trip to Hawaii with her sister Lorna in 1980’s and also a trip to Oberammergau in Germany to the Passion play with church friends in 1999. She enjoyed traveling and helping drive over the road with her husband in an 18 wheeler from September 1986 to December 23, 1993. After retiring from trucking she and her husband enjoyed being snowbirds.

She is survived by three of her children: Randy (Kristin) of Billings; Rick (Kathleen) of New Bern, North Carolina; and Gregory of Elizabeth, Colorado. She is also survived by her siblings Lorna (Richard Kappel) of Billings; Ronald Steinmetz of Worland, Wyoming; Fred (Mary Lee) Steinmetz of Park City; Pete (Jeanne) Steinmetz of Havre, Montana; Sharon Schrumpf of Roundup, Montana; and Corinne ( Dave Wright) of Bozeman, Montana.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband John Sitzman; daughter Cindy Sitzman; her parents, Henry and Helen Steinmetz; daughter-in-law Kelly Sitzman; sisters and brothers-in-law Deloris and husband Ed Heimbichner of Phoenix, Arizona; Virginia and husband Ray Edmonds of Havre; sister-in-law Linda Steinmetz of Worland, Wyoming; and brother-in-law Don Schrumpf of Roundup.

Remington Funeral home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Funeral will be held in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she is a member on Saturday September 4th at 10 a.m. Luncheon to follow.
