Dodgers on hot streak as they roll into districts

This is the time of year the Laurel Dodgers have prepped for.
After securing the regular league title last week, they are rolling into the Eastern A Legion District tournament which starts today in Billings. The state tournament begins next Thursday in Great Falls.
First things first.

Miles City falls 8-1 at the
hands of the Dodgers
The Dodgers beat Miles City on Wednesday 8-1 at Miles City in seven innings on July 13.
The Dodgers scored four runs in the first. Dodgers scored in the first on an RBI single by Kanyin Moran, an RBI single by Karson Zeiler, and a two-run single by Braden McIlvain.
The Dodgers were led by Carson Hoke’s hitting. Carson Hoke went 3-4 and scored two runs. He singled in the first, second, and fifth innings.
Carson West got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed one run over seven innings. He struck out eight, walked three and surrendered three hits.
Gunther took the loss for Miles City. He allowed eight runs in seven innings, walked six and struck out none.
The Dodgers added three more runs in the top of the fourth. Dawson Cortese’s single got things going, scoring Carson Hoke and Mason O’Donnell. That was followed up by Zeiler’s single, bringing home Cortese.

Miles City , 9-6
Four first-inning runs helped the Dodgers to a 9-6 win over Miles City at Miles City on Wednesday.
The Dodgers scored in the first on an RBI single by Trevor Meier, a two-run single by Dawson Cortese, and a wild pitch.
Cortese racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Dodgers.
Miles City’s lineup had no answer for Cameron Schriver. Miles City managed just one hit off of Schriver, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his two innings of work.
Even though Cortese allowed six runs over 4 2/3 innings he still recorded the victory. He struck out four, walked three and surrendered six hits.
Marum was the game’s losing pitcher. He lasted just four innings, walked five, struck out none, and allowed one run.
The Dodgers matched their two-run second inning with two more in the fourth. In the second, the Dodgers scored on a walk by Deklan Harper, plating Braden McIlvain.
After pushing across four runs in the bottom of the third, Miles City faced just a 6-4 deficit. An RBI single by Gunther, an RBI single by Stevens, a groundout by Swope, and a wild pitch triggered Miles City ‘s comeback. Finally, Cortese induced an inning-ending strike out from Watts.
Two runs in the bottom of the fifth helped Miles City close its deficit to 9-6. An RBI single by Gunther and an RBI double by Swope sparked Miles City ‘s rally. The Miles City threat came to an end when Schriver finally got Watts to.

The Dodgers defeat Miles City
after late game single, 7-6
The Dodgers took the last of seven lead changes in a back-and-forth affair against Miles City, securing a 7-6 victory on Thursday at Laurel.
The Dodgers finally managed to grab the lead after a strong sixth inning. The Dodgers scored on an RBI single by Mason O’Donnell off Doughty, bringing home Deklan Harper.
Trevor Meier racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Dodgers. He singled in the third, fifth, and sixth innings.
Carson Hoke recorded the win for the Dodgers even though he allowed six runs over seven innings. Carson Hoke struck out two, walked one and gave up 11 hits.
Doughty couldn’t get it done on the hill for Miles City, taking a loss. He allowed seven runs in six innings, walked three and struck out one.
In the bottom of the first, the Dodgers grabbed the early lead, 1-0.
After a quick strike from Miles City, the Dodgers responded with two runs in the third. The Dodgers scored on an RBI double by Dawson Cortese and an RBI single by Kanyin Moran.
The lead was the Dodgers’ to lose after sixth inning. More runs came home on two singles.
One run in the top of the seventh helped Miles City close its deficit to 7-6. An RBI double by Swope set off Miles City rally. But, Carson Hoke got Watts to ground out to end the game.

Game 2
Dodgers get 7 strikeouts from Mason O’Donnell, win 8-0 over Miles City
An ace performance by Mason O’Donnell carried the Dodgers to an 8-0 win in seven innings over Miles City on Thursday at Laurel.
The Dodgers’ O’Donnell kept Miles City off the scoreboard for all seven innings he was on the rubber. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on two hits while ringing up seven.
Five runs in the opening three innings allowed the Dodgers to easily put away Miles City. An RBI double by Dawson Cortese and an RBI double by Kanyin Moran during the first inning and an RBI single by Carson Hoke in the second inning fueled the Dodgers’ offense early.
Trevor Meier led the Dodgers’ offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the third inning.
Jess Bellows was charged with the loss. He allowed eight runs in five innings, walked four and struck out one.
The Dodgers piled on two more runs in the bottom of the third. A bases loaded walk scored Meier to get the Dodgers on the board in the inning.
The Dodgers tacked on another three runs in the fifth. Braden McIlvain started the inning with a single, plating Brendan LeClair. That was followed up by O’Donnell’s double, scoring Deklan Harper and McIlvain.

July 15
The Glasgow Reds fall 16-6
at the hands of the Dodgers
The Dodgers beat the Glasgow Reds on Friday 16-6 at Laurel in six innings.
The Dodgers scored seven runs in the sixth on the Dodgers scored in the sixth on an RBI triple by Kanyin Moran, an RBI single by Karson Zeiler, a two-run single by Deklan Harper, a two-run single by Harper, an error, and a two-run double by Dawson Cortese.
The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to three lead changes in the game.
The Dodgers took the lead in the fourth inning and held on for the victory. The Dodgers went up for good on a two-run double by Mason O’Donnell off McDonald, plating Harper and Carson Hoke.
Moran had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits.
Josh Anderson recorded the win for the Dodgers even though he allowed six runs over six innings. Anderson struck out three, walked two and gave up 10 hits.
The Dodgers easily handled the Glasgow Reds pitching as seven hitters combined for 15 hits, 12 RBIs and 15 runs scored.
McDonald couldn’t get it done on the bump for the Glasgow Reds, taking a loss. He allowed eight runs in three innings, walked two and struck out two.
The bottom of the first saw the Dodgers take an early lead, 4-0. The Dodgers attack began with a double from Cortese. The Dodgers pushed more runs across when Cortese scored on an RBI single by Zeiler, Moran scored on an RBI single by Carson West, and Zeiler scored on an RBI double by Braden McIlvain.
The Dodgers brought home one run in the third inning, and matched that run total in the fifth. In the third, the Dodgers scored on an RBI single by McIlvain, scoring Moran.

The Dodgers scored four runs in the second on the Dodgers scored in the second on a passed ball, a two-run single by Carson Hoke, and an RBI single by Mason O’Donnell.
Carson Hoke racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Dodgers.
The Glasgow Reds’ lineup had no answer for Kyle Cannon. The Glasgow Reds managed just two hits off of Cannon, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out five during his four innings of work.
Wersel couldn’t get it done on the bump for the Glasgow Reds, taking a loss. He allowed 10 runs in 4 1/3 innings, walked one and struck out none.
After posting three runs in the fourth, the Dodgers again scored three in the fifth. In the fourth, the Dodgers scored on an RBI single by Deklan Harper, bringing home Brendan LeClair.
A ground out scored Kanyin Moran for the inning’s first run. That was followed up by Braden McIlvain’s double, scoring Karson Zeiler.
