Dodgers games just days away

The Laurel Dodgers have not wasted any time getting ready for their long awaited genesis of a 2020 competitive baseball season. Games have been delayed for nearly a month, but are finally set to start June 2 in light of Governor Bullock’s Phase II implementation to re-open Montana after the statewide shutdown. Playing on their home field in Thomson Park, the Laurel Dodgers face-up in an Eastern A Conference doubleheader against the Billings Blue Jays at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2.

Tryouts for the Dodgers began May 4, led by head coach, Doug Studiner. The team’s administrators have spent the last four weeks building a roster and holding practices in preparations for games, which initially were an uncertainty until Phase II was ensured. Studiner mentioned before games were confirmed that they would practice as if there would be games, either way. He and the team got their wish.

“Things are still being worked out, but with Montana moving to Phase II the Dodgers can play games. What that looks like for our players and fans is still undetermined. We are in the process of developing a plan to manage games under the Phase II requirements,” sent in an e-mail from the Dodgers on May 22.

Anyone getting to play baseball right now just seems happy to be able to play. The weeks ahead will test the waters as to how teams and fans together in one place again will really shape the new game of baseball.
