Deja-Vu
for Lady
Locos

The Lady Locomotives are playing good basketball, just inconsistent basketball. One great quarter is followed by a terrible quarter, one good game comes right before a blowout, or vice-versa. Unfortunately it is becoming a habit of splitting weekend games or looking really good some night and not so much on others.
They looked good against Columbus last Friday, beating the Cougars 47-38. The low-scoring affair brought decent games from Dakota Boehler and Rylee Clark who had seven and six respectively in the win.
The girls defense held up strong and LHS head coach Amber Griffith knows her girls practice hard, but just hasn’t gotten the game-time results she wants.
“The girls have been working hard at practice,” said Griffith. “We just are not seeing that carry over from practice to the games. We are taking too many possessions on the basketball court.”
Aspen Cotter led all scorers with 17. She has been outstanding the entire season. As soon as they come together as a team and more Loco’s get involved Griffith knows they can turn the season around. There is still time and they have the talent.

Laurel def. Columbus 47-38
Laurel 10 12 16 9 — 47
Columbus 8 11 11 8 — 38
Laurel: Rylee Clark 6, Aspen Cotter 17, Dakota Buehler 7, McKenna Robertus 4, Riley Chapman 7, Ellie Kildahl 6.
Columbus: Megan Rouane 2, Alexa Riveland 9, Ulu Brooks 5, Kayla Teeters 4, Morgan Kirch 7, Camryn Ault 9, Maddi Carman 2.

The Laurel girls only lost by 11 points, 55-44 to the rival Rams, but the game was out of reach earlier than that.
One day after they beat Columbus the girls had brought their record back to .500 at 4-4 overall.
They gave themselves a chance to get into some sort of consistent basketball and a game against longtime rival Billings Central would have cemented some sort of momentum moving forward. Instead they fell below .500, again and split their two games in a row, again and came out of the weekend just like the weekend before, not good, but not terrible.
“We can’t beat good teams without stringing together multiple good possessions,” said LHS coach Amber Griffith.
It’s not only entire games where the girls can’t keep it together, it’s single quarters in wins and losses too.
The Lady Loco’s play one amazing quarter and fall apart the very next. Two different teams in the same game. The girls just cannot find consistent play from anyone.
Aspen Cotter again came to play leading her team with 10 points and stepping up big time for the girls both in losses and wins.
Tonight and Sunday they again have a chance to win two in a row and get some momentum in the locker room.
“We can’t win one, lose one and then have to build ourselves up each time this happens,” said Griffith. “It’s not getting us anywhere.”
The Laurel girls move to 4-5 on the season and 2-3 in conference play. The Rams remain undefeated in their conference and improve to 7-3 overall
The Lady Locomotives play Billings Skyview on Jan. 28, and their next game, at Hardin, is tonight, away at 7:30 p.m.
