Daniel (Dan) James O’Rourke

Daniel (Dan) James O’Rourke, 56, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2016, at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City with his children by his side.
On November 5, 1960, Dan was born in Billings to Regina Koerber and James O’Rourke and was raised outside of Fromberg, Mont. In his younger years, Dan loved going to garage sales with his mom and that is where he learned the art of making a deal. Dan graduated from Fromberg High School in 1979, and immediately started working for Burlington Northern Railroad. He married his high school sweetheart Michelle Boozel on October 4, 1980, and they moved to Laurel to start their life together. On May 6, 1989, their lives were forever changed when their first daughter Kelsie came screaming into the world. Two years later on September 28, 1991, Dan, Michelle, and Kelsie welcomed her baby sister Kaitlyn to complete their family. Dan loved being a daddy, and on his time off he was busy teaching his girls how to ride bikes, throw and hit a ball, shoot baskets, drive his big truck around the neighborhood, play cards and become adamant sports lovers. During the summers, countless hours were spent taking the girls to garage sales in search of treasures and at the lake camping, fishing, boating, and playing cards with family and friends. Dan retired from the railroad in 2007, and spent his final years living near Canyon Ferry Lake where he enjoyed fishing, boating and of course looking for a good card game.
He is survived by his father, James O’Rourke of Great Falls, his brother Michael O’Rourke and family of Great Falls, his two daughters Kelsie O’Rourke of Laurel and Kaitlyn O’Rourke of Laurel, his extended family of cousins, aunts and uncles in Livingston, Bozeman and Three Forks, countless friends and his best friend Philson (AKA the snoring, smelly chocolate lab).
We will miss your smile, your stubbornness and your sense of humor. You will forever be loved.
Cremation has taken place and a wake to Celebrate Dan’s life will be scheduled in the future. Meanwhile lift a toast to Dan and root for the Steelers!
