The Laurel City Council met Tuesday evening for a workshop meeting and then held a regular meeting to pass budget resolutions. Council President Emelie Eaton and Councilor Don Nelson were absent.

During the workshop there was a discussion on the diagonal parking on Third Ave. between Main and First streets that was painted by the owner of the Lennox Hotel building, Leslie Atkins. Her aim was to relieve parking congestion on Main St. and provide parking for her tenants. Both Laurel Police Chief Stan Langve and Fire Chief Brent Peters took a stand against the striping done by Atkins and said she needed to follow proper procedure. Atkins asked what the procedure was and Chief Peters told her to talk to Planning Director Nick Altonago. Altonaga noted there is no procedure in place currently, although he plans to create a parking permitting system. Atkins had support in the galley from several Main St. business owners and others. Chief Langve told Atkins he plans to meet with the city’s public works crew to get the stripes removed within the next week or two. See more on this issue in a future edition of the Outlook.
