Bernie flies From DC to stump for Quist

Outlook staff writer

“This election,” said Rob Quist, “is a fight for the soul of Montana.”  Quist, Cut Bank native and musician running for Montana’s sole seat in the House of Representatives, went to great lengths to demonstrate his love for his home state, even reading a poem that compared Montana to a woman that any “man of honor” would “cherish and respect.”
Bernie Sanders, Independent Senator from Vermont, participated in the “fight for the soul of Montana,” taking time off from congressional work in DC to speak with Quist in Missoula and Butte before presenting in front of an animated Billings crowd at the Metra Expo Center 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening.
Quist was vocal in his distaste for opponent Greg Gianforte, former businessman who lost to Steve Bullock in the gubernatorial election in 2016.
“This House seat should not be his consolation prize,” he said.  Quist also denounced Gianforte’s support for the American Health Care Act of 2017 bill, labeling it “un-American” for stripping Americans with pre-existing health conditions of medical insurance. Other important issues included abortion, on which Quist took a decidedly pro-choice stance, and the privatization of public lands, which Quist steadfastly opposed.
Sanders followed Quist’s speech with a similar attack on candidates accepting campaign contributions from millionaires and Super PACs, exclaiming “He [Quist] has gotten some 200,000 contributions from working people in Montana and all over this country, averaging $25.”
Jace Killsback, president of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, also officially endorsed Quist.
Election day is today, Thursday, May 25.
