Barry D. Long

Barry D. Long, 74, of Joliet, passed away on December 9, 2016 from complications of asbestosis.
He was born September 21, 1942, in Elkhart, Indiana to Robert and Ruth Long. He grew up in Millersburg, Indiana, and graduated from Millersburg High School in 1960. He then attended Goshen College. A few years later, he headed west to work in Yellowstone Park and it was then that he fell in love with Montana. He found a job at Stone’s Marina in Billings and then went to work at Cenex Refinery where he retired after 35 years. Barry was an active member of the Joliet community where he served as a member of the Volunteer Fire Department, ambulance service, school board, and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed many hobbies including travel, astronomy and wood working. His favorite pastime was researching genealogy and he had compiled a data base of thousands of relations.
On June 16, 1978, he married Marilyn Ronan and they were married for 38 years. Together they raised their family in the home they built in Joliet.
Barry was preceded in death by his father, Robert Long. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his son, Dean Long, daughters, Chris Myrup and Rachel Long, and four grandchildren. His is also survived by his mother, Ruth Walker, brother, Greg Long, and sisters, Lane Buckner and Laurel Spurgeon.
Services will be held on Wednesday, December 14, at the Laurel United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow at the Joliet Community Center. If desired, remembrances may be made to the Joliet Community Center or the charity of your choice.
