Arthur “Art” James Hollowell

“Art” passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years, Sept 8, 2019  in Red Lodge, Montana, located near his home in Joliet. He was surrounded by his wife, Velyma Belle James-Hollowell and children.

Art is survived by his wife, Velyma Belle James-Hollowell, of Dodson, MT; and children, Jeffery (Liz) Hollowell of Ross, ND; Donna (Steve) Hollowell-Hammond of Prineville, OR; Robert (Carol) Hollowell, of St. George, UT; Daniel (Malia) Hollowell of Meridian, ID; Mary (Lonny) Hollowell-George, of Philomath, OR; and Anita (Christopher) Hollowell-Manns of Redmond, WA.  Art is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, James “Jimmy” Hollowell and Anna Arthun-Hollowell; brother, Philip Hollowell; and sister, Julia Hollowell-Thompson;

Art was born on August 20, 1929, in Billings, MT, raised in a Christian household. In 1948, he graduated from Drummond High School, in Drummond, MT.

Art was drafted into the Korean conflict and served honorably from 1951 to 1953. He married Velyma Belle James on August 20, 1955. Art graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula, MT and earned a bachelor’s degree in Forestry. He was employed by the Bureau of Land Management which moved him from Salmon, ID; to Ely, NV; to Richfield, UT; to Medford, OR where he resigned and became an entrepreneur selling precious metals and health food supplements (which set the course for his study in nutrition and health). In addition, Art helped to establish the National Organization for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. 

Art was an activist. He loved to read and learn, and never ran out of energy to share his knowledge with others. As a patriot and constitutionalist, Art had much concern about the direction of our country. 

Art also enjoyed gardening and even more in sharing his knowledge of and bounty of fruits and vegetables with all those around him. Additionally, Art could not resist a weekend Polka Dance, to be toe-tapping and shuffling around the dance floor. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for the Summer of 2020. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.  John 17:3
