Andrew Glenn Porter

Andrew Glenn Porter

On September 23, 1958, Andrew Glenn Porter came into this world. He was one of three children of Lloyd Porter Sr. and Phyllis Thompson. Through his life, he excelled at so many vastly different areas. With his brother and dad, he developed a love for sports (specifical baseball), golf, camping, and fishing. He then met my mom, Sally Hartman, and that night he told his friend Timmy after he pointed at her, “That’s going to be my wife someday.” Next thing you know on May 3, 1980, it happened. They had a quaint life, everything they needed, were able to do many things they wanted, and they had kids! In 1985 they welcomed Becky Porter and two-and a half years later came Nate. Throughout their lives they became heroes to their kids, people they always look up to. Becky went off to Arizona after school and Nate to Colorado. Time flew by and Nate moved back, and Andy spent annual trips to Arizona to see Becky. Nate and Becky spent time with their dad and became some of the closest friends anyone could have.

On April 8, 2019, Andy lost his fight to an unexpected heart attack. He leaves behind his wife and children, mother, sister, brother, neighbors, friends, former co-workers from Big Bear Sports Center and all of the people he held close in his life. He left this place having such an impact on those around him and bred a legacy of laughter and understanding.

On Saturday, August 10, we will be having a Celebration of Life for my dad at 1 p.m. at South Pond at the Lions Family Park in Laurel. Following this celebration will be a trip to Henry’s where he will be placed with his father.
