Laurel officer commended for DUI arrests

Fourth award since 2011

Longtime Laurel Police Department Officer Fred Gregory not only does his job as a School Resource Officer at Laurel High School well, but he remains vigilant off campus too.
During 2016 Officer Gregory made 10 DUI arrests, more than any other officer in the department. Most of those were during the day and near a school. Several of the arrests were made before 10 a.m., possibly preventing a tragedy involving students. He was recognized for his service to the Yellowstone County DUI Task Force at the annual Angel Tree Ceremony in Billings on Dec. 15, at the county courthouse.
Each year the December ceremony recognizes those lost through the actions of impaired drivers by hanging an angel on the angel tree and adding the victim’s name to a plaque that hangs in the courthouse. Luckily, this year, the task force didn’t add an angel to the tree (although a trial is pending in a DUI-related death.) Even so, many folks in the county were affected by the careless actions of an irresponsible and impaired driver.
In addition to Officer Gregory, Billings Police Officer Glenn Gunther, Yellowstone County Sheriff Office Deputy Aaron Harris, Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Kirk Robbins and City Cab operator Rodney Willson received awards.
This is Officer Gregory’s 4th DUI Award of Merit since 2011. He has been with the LPD for nine years.
