Montana Mile kicks off Big Sky State Games

The 2017 Montana Mile sponsored by Cape Air marks the 26th running for men and the 18th for women. The races are one of the most anticipated events of the Big Sky State Games Opening Ceremonies and are scheduled to take place around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 14. The Montana Mile is an invited race featuring some of the state’s fastest high school, college, and post collegiate milers. Defending champions Tyler Mogan and Tiahna Vladic will both be back to defend their titles as well as the 2013 and 2015 Montana Mile Champion Christina Aragon.
The Women’s Montana Mile record is 4:53.9 set in 2011 by Lois Ricardi Keller.  Patrick Casey set the Men’s record in 2010 at 4:07.9. 
Defending Montana Mile Champion, Tyler Mogan, just completed his sophomore year at Montana State University Bozeman.  Mogan will be running the Montana Mile for the third time. His mile PR is an impressive 4:10. He was a highly decorated class “A” runner at Laurel High School. He placed both 2nd and 3rd at the State A Cross Country Championships and was the 2013 1600m and 3200m State Champion.  Mogan earned 4th in the 2014 3200m and in 2015 he brought home silver in both the 1600m and 3200m. Last weekend, he placed 4th at the Missoula Half Marathon in 1:08:09 and won the Grand Teton Half Marathon in June with a course record of 1:10:42.
Laurel High School sophomore, Levi Taylor is making his Montana Mile debut. He holds the school record at Laurel in the 1600m and the 3200m. Taylor brought home a second place finish in the 1600m and third in the 3200m at the 2017 Class A State Meet. He also earned All-State honors in Cross Country in 2016. His 1600m PR is 4:30.10.
