LAUREL — The Laurel High School girls’ softball season got into full Eastern A swing this week with three league games in two days.

The second-place Locomotives hosted a tough hitting Dawson team and a feisty Sidney team Tuesday afternoon at Wood’s softball field. The Sidney game was a makeup game while the Dawson game provided Laurel a chance to repay an earlier loss to the Glendive squad.

The Locos defeated Sidney 10-9 and Dawson County 17-9.

Miles City beat Laurel 8-6 Wednesday afternoon in a clash of the league leaders.

Laurel’s bats led them to a sweep of two Eastern A Conference softball games at home. Game one was highlighted by a walk-off hit up the middle from Laurel’s Taryn Wommack as the Locomotives defeated Sidney 10-9.

Laurel scored four runs on five hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. Led by Riley Chapman’s pitching and Dakota Boehler’s four RBIs. Sidney was led by Bree Fischer with three runs batted in.

Game two had Laurel scoring 17 runs on 17 hits as the Locomotives defeated Glendive 17-9. Ellie Kildahl pitched and hit a two-run home run to lead Laurel. Glendive’s Wyniah Mintz was 3-4 from the plate with four RBIs and a home run.

The Locomotives travel to Butte for a pair of games this Friday and Saturday.

The Locos go into the district tournament in Glendive on May 16 and 17 with their pitching and hitting in fine form. State softball will be held in Sidney on May 25-27.
