The Laurel Locomotives’ girls soccer team hosted arguably its toughest match of the year when the Central Rams came to town Thursday.
Both teams sported identical undefeated records overall and in league play so LHS coach Aloma Jess figured the game would be decided by which team made the fewer errors.
“It was going to be a clash of the titans and it was,” she said.
Laurel’s Morgan Maack scored on an assist from Aspen Cotter in the 20th minute to account for the only score in the half.
The game ended in a 1-1 tie and both teams kept their undefeated records intact.
“I was very pleased with our possession play in the first half of the match,” she said. “We controlled much of the field but we still have work to do to maintain possession throughout the match despite what our opponents are doing.”
“This game was a definite confidence builder for the Lady Locos – we look forward to our next match with them on Oct. 5.”

Gracey Willis scored both goals for Laurel in the second half Saturday afternoon versus Livingston as the Locos continued to rack up wins.
The Locomotives dominated every aspect of the game and goals by Sammi Spitzer and Maeson Cotter toward the end of the first half put enough distance between the Rangers and the Locos to never put the outcome of the game in doubt.
Livingston was limited to two shots on goal while Laurel had 20.
The Locos host Belgrade at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The game had been scheduled for 4 p.m. The season is quickly coming to an end with this week’s game being the last home game before the state playoffs begin.
