Dodgers on top of Eastern A

The Laurel Dodgers are 18-2 in league play and maintained their lead in the Eastern A standings after a two game sweep over the Billings Blue Jays on Monday.

After exchanging leads throughout the game, the Dodgers came to the top of the seventh inning tied with the Blue Jays at five apiece. Deklan Harper led off with a single to left field, Dawson Cortese walked and Carson West was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Brandon McIlvan was behind in the count 1-2 then took three consecutive balls for the walk, scoring Harper. The Dodgers held off the Cardinals in their last at bat, winning 6-5.

Carson Hoke, Harper and West each had two hits for the Dodgers.

Hoke got the win, pitching a complete game and giving up five hits and one earned run. He added seven strikeouts.

The Dodgers cruised to a 12-2 victory in the 7 p.m. game after jumping out to an early 9-1 lead. 

Dawson Cortese led the team with three hits and Carson Hoke, Kanyin Moran and Kayne Johnson each had two. Moran had four RBI’s and Hoke added three. 

Cortese got the win in five innings, giving up three hits and two earned runs with eight strikeouts and three walks.

Against the Cody Cubs on Sunday, the Dodgers tied the game 4-4 in the top of the fifth then surrendered seven runs over the next two innings to drop the game 10-4. 

Carson Hoke and Kanyin Moran each had two hits and one RBI in the game. 

Noah Gunther earned the loss giving up eight hits and four earned runs through four and two-thirds innings. 

The second game of the scheduled double-header in Cody was a rain-out.

The Dodgers split games against second place Billings Cardinals on Friday at Pirtz Field.

In the 5 p.m. game, Laurel jumped out to an early lead and only gave up one run to claim the 5-1 victory.

Carson West pitched six and two-thirds innings, giving up one run on six hits while fanning eight Cardinal batters.

Deklan Harper and Kanyin Moran each had two hits, with Moran knocking two runners in.

Laurel fell to the Cardinals 8-6 in the 7 p.m. game. The game was tied going into the bottom of the fifth when the Cardinals scored three off a bases loaded single by Billings. The Dodgers added one run in the top of the sixth but ended up losing by two.

Noah Gunther had two hits and one RBI in the game and seven other Dodgers each got one hit.

Cameron Schriver got the loss, giving up eight hits and three earned runs through five innings.

On Wednesday evening in Sheridan, Wyo. the Laurel Dodgers overcame a 5-0 deficit against the Troopers with a six-run sixth inning to take the lead. They added one more run in the top of the sixth inning to take a 7-5 lead, before Sheridan knocked three runs in to steal the game from the Dodgers, 8-7.

Carson West went 3-3 from the plate and knocked one run in, while Noah Gunther had two hits and three RBI’s.

The Dodger’s Seth Green got the loss, allowing eight runs on nine hits in six innings.

The second game of the double header was cancelled due to rain.
