Class of 2017 Commencement to follow tradition

One-hundred and sixty-three students are in the Laurel High School Class of 2017. Commencement is Sunday, May 21, 2107, at 1 p.m., in the gym.
The Laurel High School band will welcome the gradates with the processional to begin the ceremony. Principal Edward C. Norman will offer an introductory address followed by musical selections by the A Capella and Senior Choir members. They will perform, “Because You Loved Me,” arranged by Jeff Funk and “I Lived,” arranged by Jacob Naverud. Rhonda Burghardt will conduct and Michelle Maurer will be the accompanist.
The Honor Awards will be presented by Superintendent Linda Filpula and Principal Norman. Next, the Salutatorian Jessica Elmer will address the students, faculty, staff and family present. She will be followed by Valedictorian Ben Longbottom.
The LHS Symphonic Band will perform under the direction of Conductor Chris Bidwell before the graduates recognize their family members for their support and help at making it through high school.
Principal Norman will introduce Brent Edgmond, who was selected as speaker by the graduates. After his address, Principal Norman will present the Class of 2017. That will be followed by the awarding of diplomas by School Board Trustee Chair Doug LeBrun and Associate Principal Shawnda Zahara-Harris.
The recessional will be performed by the LHS Band under the direction of Conductor Chris Bidwell wrapping up four years of hard work!
