BSSG ignites with opening celebration

The Big Sky State Games Opening Ceremonies will set the 32nd Annual Games in motion on Friday, July 14 at Wendy’s Field at Daylis Stadium.  Gates open at 5:30 p.m. to the Pre-Games Festival featuring interactive booths, climbing wall, obstacle course, food trucks, music, interactive booths and souvenirs.
At 6:15 p.m., the 4th Annual Soaked fun run/walk first wave begins in and around Pioneer Park.  On typically one of the hottest days of the summer, the Soaked fun run includes Billings Fire Department fire hoses, sprinklers, foam machine, two slip n slides, and loads of water. The run wraps up with a lap around the track inside Daylis Stadium.  
Pre-Parade entertainment includes performances by Big Sky State Games Dance Sports Gold Medalists and Overall High Point Winners.
At 7:30 p.m. the Parade of Athletes will begin with all 37 sports of the Games represented and recognized.  The Parade Marshalls are the State Games Character Counts Scholarship winners Maysen Whitney of Billings Senior High School, Madison and Makenzy Gilsdorf of Billings Senior High School, and Skyler Robinson of Baker High School.
The evening’s program includes State Games Hot Money Give Away of 20 $100 bills, Aerial Assaults Performance, Torch Lighting by World Record Holder Triple Jumper Willie Banks and the Montana Mile (Montana’s fastest male and female milers). 
Other highlights Opening Ceremonies are State Games National Anthem Contest Winner Abbi Lemelin, Billings Mayor Tom Hanel, Marine Corps League Color Guard, Billings Senior High Drum Corps and the 2016 Athletes of the Year.
Admission is $5 and free to children 6 and under. Athletes are admitted with their Opening Ceremonies ticket.
