The Laurel Locomotives invited two soccer teams to town Friday and Saturday and the visitors left with nothing to show for their efforts.

The Laurel boys’ soccer team blanked Corvallis and Stevensville and moved to 3-1 in the nonconference season.

The 8-0 win over Corvallis on Saturday followed a 3-0 win over Stevensville on Friday. Shutouts and blowouts are a positive part of the game when you are on the winning side of the ledger.

In the second half, Luis Vega continued on his scoring tear for the season and Jones finished the scoring with a goal in the 64th minute.

Coach Leroy VanderPool liked the intensity from his squad and he was proud to see the effort from his new look Locomotives,

Laurel 8, Corvallis 0

The Laurel Locomotives had 44 shots on goal as they rallied Corvallis 8-0 on Saturday.

It must be said that entire wars have been won with fewer than 44 shots fired…

Senior Luis Vega and Logan Jones took advantage of a porous Corvallis defense and each scored three goals in the rout.

Kade McIlvain continued to be solid in the pipes as keeper as he notched both shutouts.

The Locos hit the road this week to play Polson and Whitefish as they wrap up the non-conference season.

The Locos travel to Belgrade on Sept. 16 to begin league play.
