Big donation adds to cancer aid

Nine-year-old Jake Johnson knew what he wanted to do with his birthday check. Instead of buying something for himself, he decided he wanted to help others. His $100 check went into the total during the successful annual penny drive at Laurel schools. “It gelt good,” said the third grader. Jake knows a little about cancer. His buddy, Avery, was diagnosed at three with lymphoma and the now six-year-old’s cancer has been in remission since November.
