The Laurel High School boys and girls track teams almost matched one another's scores on Saturday at the Colstrip Invitational as each team took first place.

The Locomotive boys scored 174 points in winning the Colstrip meet. The host Colts followed in second place with 160 points and Forsyth took third with 78 points. The Laurel girls also had a very effective day on the track and field as they placed first with 170 points. Miles City was second with 129.5 points and Colstrip finished third with 93.5 points.

Overall, 19 different Laurel boys placed in individual events. Senior Josh Barta, junior Kole Olsen and sophomore Sean Condon each placed in three events. Barta was first in the high jump, second in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump. Olsen took first in the 400-meter run, second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 100-meter dash. Condon was first in the discus, second in the triple jump and fifth in the shot put.

Juniors Nick Wilson, Mike Whaley and Toryn Rogers, sophomores Brett Weidler and Ethan Studiner and freshmen Tim Kuehn and Ethan Albrecht each placed in the top six of events. Wilson won the javelin throw and took third in the discus. Whaley was third in the 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles. Rogers was sixth in both the 400-meter run and the 300-meter hurdles. Weidler took second in the 800-meter run and fifth in the 1600-meter run. Kuehn was second in the 300-meter hurdles and fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. Albrecht was third in the pole vault and fifth in the 200-meter dash. Studiner was fourth in the 3200-meter run and sixth in the 1600-meter run.

Other Laurel boys to place in one event included seniors Chase Brownlee (fourth in the 1600-meter run), and Cameron Ruttenbur (fourth in the 800-meter run), juniors Easton Padden (second in the pole vault) and John Elsenpeter (third in the 400-meter run), sophomores Jarred Hergett (third in the shot put), Zach Flanagan (fifth in the pole vault), Jeff Marstaeller (fifth in the triple jump) and Jake Whaley (sixth in the pole vault) and freshman Nate Phillips (fifth in the 400-meter run).

Both Laurel boys' relay teams also placed. The 400-meter relay team and the 1600-meter relay team each took third.

Junior Shea Buckingham led the Lady Locomotives by placing in three events. Buckingham got first in the pole vault, took third in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Senior Ashley Cooper and junior Jessie Englert each added two first place finishes. Cooper won both the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Englert was first in the 1600-meter run and the 3200-meter run. Senior Justine Simons and freshman Mikaela Beausoleil also won events for the Laurel girls. Simons won the 100-meter dash while Beausoleil was first in the 800-meter run. Beausoleil also finished third in the high jump. Also, the Lady Locomotive 400-meter relay team and 1600-meter relay team earned first place.

Sophomores Shelby Kramer and Jessie Butke and freshman Taylor Condon each placed in two events. Kramer was second in the 3200-meter run and third in the 1600-meter run. Butke was fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump. Condon was second in the 800-meter run and third in the 400-meter run.

Other Laurel girls to place in the top six in one event include senior Jenny Engen (second in the discus), juniors Brittney Cellmer (third in the long jump) and Chelsey Jansma (fourth in the 100-meter hurdles), sophomore Maddy Martin (sixth in the high jump) and freshmen Emylee Colling (third in the 100-meter dash), Callie Dahl (fourth in the 200-meter dash) and Mariah Smith (fifth in the 300-meter hurdles).

The Locomotives will face several tough teams this Saturday when they compete in the Billings Invitational at Billings Skyview High School. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 am.
